Register Now for United Days: The Power of Story

United Students (including Class of 2016) attend for only $25! This year's United Days will explore how biblical and personal storytelling can enrich your life and inspire collective action in our congregations and our world. Stories build empathy-helping us step into another's shoes, illustrate a point, provoke action, entertain us or move us to tears. The Power of Story will immerse us in the environment of story, with contemplative and skill-building workshops, speakers and demonstrations. You will see biblical stories come to life, listen to personal tales of transformation and reflect on your own narrative. (more…)

Voting in MN on November 8? Here’s How!

If you retain a residence in another place, we hope you have voted or will vote by absentee ballot. If you have moved to Minnesota (or to the Twin Cities from elsewhere in MN) to attend or work at the seminary, you can vote in the election on November 8 if you have been a Minnesota resident for at least 20 days before the election. Where: The Computer Lab in the classroom hallwayWhen: Beginning Monday, September 26th and running at least a year or more! The Spencer Library is beginning a major weeding project which will help to strengthen and focus the library collection so that it might better support the mission of the seminary and the scholarship of the community. By our calculations, almost a quarter of the collection may be withdrawn over the course of the project! (more…)

Greetings from the Dean!

Welcome back to United! This promises to be a full and exciting year in academics. Join me in welcoming our new president, Dr. Lewis P. Zeidner, Professor of Psychology and Leadership. As you may have read, Dr. Barbara Holmes retired over the summer and is now in Florida and doing well. President Zeidner has assured me that the academic direction and vision of the school will continue in the same direction we have been going. I have full faith in his ability to lead this seminary during these times of transition. (more…)

“I’m asking each of you to speak out against injustice”

Dr. Fayneese Miller, President, Hamline University, delivered a compelling plea to our graduates, "You have the power to change the world. I know I'm putting a lot on your shoulders, but you can handle it." Dr. Miller thoughtfully addressed the civil unrest and social injustice in America today. She shared her personal story of growing up in the church and the power she's witnessed in people coming together to do what's right. Dr. Miller confronted the loss of hope in America and challenged United's graduates to restore hope. "Because of the path you have chosen, your path is more, and should be more. (more…)
