What Do You See?: A 2020 Online Art Gallery from the United Community

What do you see? What do you hope for your community? For United? The world? What images, words, gestures, sounds might capture your prayers and petitions? Where are you already finding beauty? These are some of the questions that the artworks below respond to. They include glimpses of natural beauty, invoke community and connection, create moments of rest and restoration; they bless the work that still needs to be done. With the world and our country and communities in tumult, wrestling with multiple pandemics, natural disasters, and social injustices, the need for hope and prophetic vision is greater than ever. At United we believe that the arts are uniquely powerful and transformative in visioning a better world and bringing it to be. (more…)

Panel on the Art of Jimmy Reagan Video

On October 9, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities hosted a panel about the artist Jimmy Reagan. Jimmy Reagan is internationally recognized as an Outsider Artist. Diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, he creates in a way that isn't impeded by the rules of mainstream art. Monday's panel included Jimmy's mother Peg Reagan, Associate Professor Emerita of Theology & the Arts at United Jann Cather Weaver, and artist Jeff Anderson. This Monday April 16 through Wednesday April 18, the University of Minnesota is hosting a symposium "Prince from Minneapolis", and on that Wednesday from 1:45pm to 3:00pm, United Theological Seminary is hosting a panel on the Theology of Prince in the Cowles Auditorium in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Spirited Communities: “Our studies inspire our artworks”

The Jewish Women Artists’ Circle brings women artists together, not around a common art form, but the commonality of their faith. Studying regularly with religious leaders is an important part of their gatherings and that influence becomes part of the creativity of their art work. Spirited Community, the group’s latest collaborative exhibition, is open for viewing in United’s Classroom Wing Gallery. The dynamic synergy of these artists works beautifully into the formation of this exhibition. Their art forms are diverse as is the individual interpretation of the theme of community. I had a short interview with Lucy Rose Fischer about the group and their process. (more…)
