Spiritual Formation & Community Life Coordinator

West Side United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan is seeking a full-time Spiritual Formation & Community Life Coordinator. The Coordinator shall possess good communication skills, be a strong motivator and celebrator of others, and have experience in Christian formation. A preferred candidate would possess an advanced certificate/ degree in an area of ministry as well as history working within diverse populations. The candidate would also be willing to work non-traditional hours (weekend, evening as needed).

This position reports to the Lead Pastor and is a critical member of the church’s leadership team. This position is supported by staff colleagues, leaders and
volunteers from the congregation to accomplish job responsibilities and goals. The Lead Pastor and church provide mentoring and support for professional
development and learning.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
30% job responsibility for Youth Spiritual Formation (grades: 6 – 12)

● Direct, coordinate and support a unified Christian education program for
youth
● Coordinate and attend weekly youth group meetings
● Plan and run activities (i.e., retreats, concerts, confirmation, and outreach
events)
● Celebrate milestones (i.e., baptism, confirmation & graduation)

30% job responsibility for Children’s Spiritual Formation (ages: infant–5th
grade)

● Direct, coordinate and support a unified Christian education program for
children including nursery, Sunday school, and 3rd grade Bible class
● Plan and run fellowship activities
● Ensure adherence to Safe Sanctuary Policies

20% job responsibility for Adult Spiritual Formation
● Train and recruit lay persons for teaching adult discipleship through
Bible study and small groups
● Lead Adult Bible Studies as needed

20% job responsibility for Community Life
● Grow church’s internal fellowship: training small group leaders and
coordinating a volunteer team for special events
● Grow church’s connection to the community through fellowship events
(i.e., Easter Extravaganza, Trunk-or-Treat, Movie or Craft Nights, Day
Trips, Church+Community picnics)
● Assist in worship services as requested by the Lead Pastor
● Visit members in crisis when Lead Pastor unavailable

Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours) with benefits: medical insurance, 3%
retirement contribution, 3 weeks paid vacation, & professional development as
approved by the Church Board.

*Salary commensurate with education and experience.
*Education: College degree and Christian ministry experience with children and youth preferred.
