Online Learning With an On-Campus Feel
United’s significant investment in state-of-the-art distance learning technology allows students
to follow their calling without having to uproot their lives. As a hybrid, online seminary, you can
pursue any of our degree programs from the comfort of your home while still experiencing the
same level of world-class progressive theological education and vibrant community that United
is known for.
What It’s Like
Distance learners at United report a strong interactive experience. Our robust experiential education programming immerses you in a variety of different settings, allowing you to develop the professional skills you’ll need to make a broad impact in your chosen vocation.
How It Works
Every United degree program—MA, MAL, MAM, MDiv, and DMin—can be completed entirely online. Students seeking ordination in the United Methodist Church (UMC) must complete courses required by the UMC on-campus.
All of United’s weekly on-campus classes offer the option to participate via Zoom, a video conferencing technology that allows you to participate in the classroom experience no matter where you’re located. As opposed to many online courses, which lack real-time interaction, Zoom allows you to watch lectures live and engage in class discussions as if you were in the room.
Selected distance learning courses are offered with the following options:
Synchronous Courses
With weekly classes that can be attended in person or online via Zoom. For students who prefer to attend live class meetings for some or all of their courses.
Asynchronous Online Courses
In which coursework can be completed on your own schedule, with no required synchronous meetings. This option is designed for students for whom daily work commitments require maximum flexibility.
