Nathan Albert
Rev. Dr. Nathan Albert (he/him/his) is a former professional actor turned university chaplain. Currently, he oversees the Spiritual Life Center as the University Chaplain at the University of Lynchburg. He has earned a Doctor of Ministry in Interreligious Chaplaincy, Master of Divinity, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Performance, and Certificate in Spiritual Transformation. His doctoral research focused on the ways chaplains in higher education contribute to decentering Christian hegemony and the dominant expression of religious practice and the impact that has on students developing a more expansive and pluralistic spirituality.
After his career as a singer and actor, Rev. Dr. Albert worked as a pastor, campus minister, pediatric chaplain, and director of pastoral care at a non-profit organization. He is dually ordained as an interfaith minister and reverend by the Order of the Universal Interfaith and the Progressive Christian Alliance. He serves as the Vice President on the board of the Association for Chaplaincy and Spiritual Life in Higher Education, the principal leadership organization that supports higher education chaplaincies and religious and spiritual life professionals through education, collaboration, and research. Rev. Dr. Albert has also authored a book called “Embracing Love: My Journey to Hugging a Man in His Underwear” and writes on his website. He is married to Kate and they have two sons.
