United's Response to COVID-19

In light of the recent changes in State and Federal recommendations related to COVID-19, United’s campus is currently closed.

A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT LEW ZEIDNER

“I previously announced that the United Campus building would remain closed consistent with the Governor’s stay home order.  His stay home guidance has become less definitive as our State and Nation work to balance public health risk with the challenges of businesses and work places being closed.

While there are very real challenges faced by many in our United community as a direct or indirect effect of the public health crisis; the school has only been modestly impacted in its ability to provide a strong and comprehensive educational experience to students. United has the ability therefore to balance with a higher emphasis on reducing public health risk than other organizations. In that context, we intend to keep the campus building closed beyond the Governor’s stay home order’s expiration.

These times certainly test our tolerance of ambiguity and I am grateful for everyone’s efforts to retain a community spirit through the physical isolation. We anticipate announcing a plan for Fall by June 1 and will communicate regularly about a timeline for opening the physical campus.

Many have benefited from the chaplaincy support of Revs. Hutt and Smalley and they will continue to be available as a resource via telephone or Zoom. Faculty and staff will be working remotely and will be available on regular schedules to meet needs.”

UpdateS

Campus Closure: Our campus remains closed. All staff and faculty will continue to work their regular schedules and are available via Zoom, phone, and email. Some communication might be a bit slower than usual as we all adjust to working in unpredictable conditions, but please let Lew or Kyle know if you are unable to connect with the services or personnel you need in a timely fashion.

Library Access: The Spencer Library is closed. Books and interlibrary loan materials will not be available and you are requested to hold on to any materials needing to be returned until we open again. Access to databases containing online, full-text articles remains available to all current students and faculty.

United Apartments: Students who live in United’s apartments in New Brighton are encouraged to practice social distancing and follow all health department guidelines regarding group gatherings. We ask that any resident who experiences symptoms contact Vonda as quickly as possible so we can inform others who might be at risk of contagion.

Ministry Lab: In conjunction with UTS safe-practices decisions, The Ministry Lab is temporarily suspending open hours. Please contact Executive Director Emily Meyer for consultations, to access resources, and/or to register for zoom workshops. Visit The Ministry Lab’s website for zoom workshop info (for instance: creating and generation online worship, especially for Easter), and regular offerings of at-home faith formation, prayer and worship resources. Six New Things will continue to post weekly. On behalf of The Ministry Lab, be careful, wise, and safe as we journey into this new reality together
