SUMMARY:Cultivating Generous Congregations Seminar
DESCRIPTION:United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and the MN Conference of the United Church of Christ (UCC) are offering a one-day workshop on congregational fundraising\, a partnership made possible by a denomination grant. \nCultivating Generous Congregations maps the new landscape of religious giving and stewardship and provides you and your team with tools for building a culture of generosity unique to the congregation’s needs and challenges. As the Lake Institute says about the training: \n“We invite you and your ministry team to participate in a seminar experience that could change the way you and your congregation approach giving and generosity. Cultivating Generous Congregations (CGC) is an interactive seminar offered… in partnership with denominational or network organizations\, demonstrating how pastors and ministry leaders can unearth and energize congregational generosity by exploring the significant and necessary steps to creating lasting cultural change within a congregation. Interactive segments of CGC explore theology\, the role of adaptive leadership\, fiscal transparency\, and the importance of donor care\, with action steps to impact the exploration and experience of generosity for both laity and clergy. This course can be tailored for many faith traditions or demographics.” \nAccording to The Lake Institute\, this seminar will help participants: \n\n\n\nrethink their role in church/meeting finances;\nbecome better stewards of their donors’ gifts; and\nawaken an ongoing spirit of generosity within their communities.\n\n\n\nRegistration\nRegister at this link. To learn more or ask questions\, please contact Rev. WendyVanderHart\, Generosity Officer\, via email or by phone at 612.465.7181. \nFor questions related to United\, please contact Ryan Currens\, United’s Institutional Major Gifts Officer. \nYou can learn more about the course and the Lake Institute here. > \nAccess the Institute’s Cultivating Generous Congregations Flyer here. > \n\nWho Should Attend?\nThis event is designed for pastors and church leadership. Whether you are an ordained minister\, deacon\, elder\, or lay leader\, we welcome all members of a congregation’s pastoral staff and leadership team. \n\nCost\nRegistration is $150 per team of 3–8 people\, including the pastor. SUMMARY:Book Launch with Dr. Pat Browne: Seed Corn Must Not Be Ground
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, June 10\, at 6:30 PM to celebrate the official launch of Seed Corn Must Not Be Ground: A Memoir of Survival and Resilience\, the remarkable new book authored by our own Dr. Pat Browne. \nWhile Pat was waiting to be born\, her mother descended into madness. Living under non-negotiable requirements of perfection and cleanliness\, Pat and her four younger siblings faced rules and expectations that opposed all notions “of the perfect Catholic family”—the desired outward illusion. Sleeping perfectly still “like pieces of paper slipped into an envelope\,” so as not to rumple the bed sheets\, eating the same small meals every single day\, and requiring permission to use the bathroom was both Pat’s normal and her best guarded secret. In a harrowing yet quietly hopeful memoir\, Pat explores the internal contours of a life shaped by trauma. Extending beyond the bounds of an individual’s story to reflect holistically about what it means to be human\, Seed Corn Must Not Be Ground‘s overarching preoccupation is the problem and meaning of suffering. Structured by a unique braiding of memory and spirituality\, the book ponders profound human questions about pain and loss\, grief and sorrow\, resilience and healing. In language simultaneously wrenching and beautiful\, Browne reveals depths of wisdom for understanding and responding to the question of\, “Where was God in all of that?” \nThis event will be on campus and accessible through Zoom. In-person attendees can enjoy light refreshments. \nRegistration\n
