Think Like a Lawyer, Act Like a Chaplain

July 1, 2020 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This series shows how religious freedom law and policies have been weaponized and how chaplains can be agents of resistance.

Think Like a Lawyer, Act Like a Chaplain was first presented as a four-hour workshop in 2019 at the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) annual conference. The purpose of this online, four-part series is to offer spiritual care professionals and students an opportunity to look at how weaponizing religious freedom may negatively impact our abilities to offer spiritual care in health care settings, as well as ways to resist discrimination through hate-proofing.

Part I (July 1) – A New Legal and “Inconvenient Situation”

Part II (July 8) – The U.S. Constitution

Part III (July 15) – U.S. Supreme Court Decisions

Part IV (July 22) – Spiritual Caregivers and the Legal Process

Registrants can participate in one or more presentation. All presentations will be via Zoom.
