What’s happening on campus?
A recent article in the New York times, by contributor Adam Grant, professor of management and psychology at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, considers the term languishing to describe many people’s emotional/mental health experiences now and over the last year. Consider how “languishing” might speak to your experience as well as the members of communities you work with. Read the full article here.
In response to the challenges of languishing, we will have flourishing opportunities with a variety of well being specialists who will assist you in expanding your notion of personal well being. Each month a new guest will guide us in embodied experiences to expand our capacity to relax, recharge and reignite our spirits. Guests will include musicians, artists, body workers and others who will demonstrate, suggest and invite.
Mondays starting in June 7th 6:30 – 7:30
All are invited to a shared Contemplative Gathering every Wednesday morning to gather together in silence and sit in communal contemplation. This is an opportunity to find grounding in the moment, and to share in that grounding energy with similarly self-directed explorers. The last ten minutes of the session are devoted to sharing aloud prayers that have been submitted during the week.
If you have anyone in your heart for whom you would like to request a prayer, please use this form before 7 p.m. on the Tuesday before the session to submit your request. Prayer requests will be accepted on a first-requested, first-offered basis until capacity (still being determined) is met for our available time. Please be brief in the wording of your requests. Numerous communities have formed, and are forming, to support their particular needs and interests. If you are interested in forming a specific community affinity group please let Sara Smally or Karen Hutt know so we can get it published and help if you need logistical or process support for guidance. No Agenda Wednesdays – Open Zoom Room
With 60 percent of our students spread out around the country, building community beyond the classroom can be challenging. Stop by to see who’s here, in an open zoom room for conversation, humor and colleagueship. Bring a cup of tea, an experience, a question, a poem to share, or find out what life is like for a seminary colleague in a part of the country you are curious about. Wednesdays 12 – 3pm (CST)
Members of the United community are invited to join The Ministry Lab’s Midweek Retreat every Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. CST. Take a half an hour each week to be present with God, your Self, and others. Develop your personal practice and discover how deepened awareness and greater emotional and spiritual balance enable you to engage more fully, creatively and energetically in the essential work of God’s Beloved Community.
