We’ll kick off the Fall term with a welcome session, breakout conversations for different concentrations, a “Tips for Seminary Success” panel with alums, and closing worship and ritual.   • Queertopia United

    Queertopia United is a community of support, academic inquiry, creativity, and spiritual practice for Queer students and anyone at United interested in the field of Queer theology. Our first meeting will be Friday September 11, 2 -4 p.m. CST. We will meet six times throughout the semester. In each 3-hour session, we will spend the first half discussing pre-assigned texts from the fields of queer theory, trans theory, and/or queer theology, and the second half working on personal and professional development in relation to lgbtq topics. We will help each other practice, play, articulate, and develop queer theological lenses to be used in academic and ministerial contexts. Open to United students, faculty, staff, and alums! This group is organized by student Stephani Pescitelli with the sessions facilitated by alum Max Brumberg-Kraus. We will meet for three sessions, starting on Wednesday, Sept 16, 23, 30, 7pm – 8:30 p.m. CST We will discuss and explore our own personal experiences and relationships to violence, conflict, and nonviolence, along with practical ways we might ground and care for ourselves and others during situations of violence that might arise in the context of social movements. Facilitators are Eileen Hanson, currently pursuing MDiv in Interreligious Chaplaincy, and Justin Sabia-Tanis, Assistant Professor of Christian Ethics and Social Transformation. Please join us for as much of this 3-part conversation as you are able.
