Interfaith Chaplaincy from a Buddhist Perspective

    2:00 PM-1:00 PM
United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities
767 Eustis St., Suite 140, St. Paul, MN 55114

    Friday, March 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

In this workshop we will look at Interfaith Spiritual Care from a Buddhist perspective emphasizing the interventions of presence, deep listening and interfaith prayer. We will look at the obstacles to supportive presence and work with the practices of non-judgmental awareness and non-attachment from views. Participants will have a chance to explore and practice compassion for those with different viewpoints, and leave with more confidence in utilizing tools to reach across religious boundaries.

About the instructor: Paige de Wees was raised in a Midwestern Baptist middle-class family. After earning a BA in Christian Theology and English Literature, spending time in the Middle East and working in Somali refugee resettlement pre 9-11 , she earned an MA in Islamic Studies. She then embarked on an embodied spirituality via Hatha Yoga and Buddhist meditation. She began dharma training with a Tibetan teacher and has been practicing at Common Ground Meditation Center in the Insight tradition for 8 years. She has worked as an Interfaith Hospital and Hospice Chaplain since 2016 with special interest in consciousness studies and the decolonization of religions.
