Kaleo Center for Faith, Justice & Social Transformation
Newcom was awarded an Archibald Bush Foundation Leadership Fellowship in 2007 to research the intersection of theological education and social justice ministry. His research identified a fundamental gap within Seminary education around the applied competencies of social transformation and effective public witness. The Center was launched in 2010 to address this gap. In September, 2016 United welcomed its first cohort of nine social transformation students. United’s flagship Social Transformation concentration is available within all of United degrees and combines the tools and methodologies of social change with constructive and practical theology to prepare innovative and grounded leaders for an increasingly complex and pluralistic world. Steve served the Headwaters Foundation for Justice as the Executive Director for 18 years and prior to that worked for the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches. Newcom, a 1980 United alum, is an ordained minister in the Community of Christ church.
