NEW BRIGHTON –Reverend Dr. Barbara A. Holmes, President of United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, will retire Aug. 31, 2016. The former chair of the board of trustees, Dr. Lewis P. Zeidner, has been appointed to a one-year term as president.
During the last four years Zeidner served on United’s executive committee of the board of trustees including two years as treasurer and two years as the board chair. During his tenure, he worked closely with Dr. Holmes to create and implement United’s 2015-2018 strategic plan.
“Dr. Zeidner and I have worked together through the years to create, implement and refine United’s strategic plan,” said Dr. Holmes. “United is a pioneer in the evolving world of seminary education and has been nationally recognized for its innovation. That innovation has come from the groundwork laid down in the strategic plan.”
During his term, Dr. Zeidner will continue the execution of United’s strategic plan. The plan includes expanding its diverse student body, further embracing both the arts and social transformation, and adapting to the changes affecting seminaries and seminary education.
“We are grateful for the exemplary service that Rev. Dr. Holmes has provided to United,” said Jeffrey Sartain, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “She has built upon United’s tradition of progressive leadership, has infused new life into the mission, vision, and values statements, and has diversified the community. Although we will miss Rev. Dr. Holmes dearly, we know the seminary will continue its great work under Dr. Zeidner’s leadership.”
