President emeritus and distinguished professor emeritus of religion, society and the arts
Wilson Yates is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church with dual standing in the United Church of Christ. He is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University (B.A.), Vanderbilt Divinity School (M.Div.) and Harvard University (Ph.D.), and has been a visiting scholar at Cambridge University and Yale Divinity School and a visiting professor at Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley. In 1998, he founded ARTS: The Arts in Religious and Theological Studies, and continues to serve as the journal’s senior editor. Wilson has written extensively on the arts in theological education, most recently editing Arts, Theology, and the Church: New Intersections, with Kimberly Vrudny. He is the current president of SARTS: Society for the Arts in Religious and Theological Studies, an academic society.
