Church Business Administration Courses at United

United is working cooperatively with the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA) to offer a certificate program in Church Business Administration. Courses start beginning June 2014.

Courses are open to anyone—business administrators, administrative assistants, pastors, treasurers—who might benefit from practical skills and theological reflection about the work of managing a church, whether or not certification is the goal.


General Information for 2014 Classes

Dates:   Tuesday-Friday, June 17-20 and/or Monday-Thursday, June 23-26
Times:   8:30 AM-4:30 PM
Costs:*  Both weeks:         $650 (all eight days)
              One week:            $350 (four days)
              Two-day course:   $200
              One-day course:   $100
*Housing and meals are additional.

Both weeks:   5.0
One week:      2.5
Per day:          0.65

Teaching the seminary session are people with extensive experience working in the field and qualified United faculty. You do not need to seek NACBA certification to attend. This is an ecumenical program. Both weeks will be offered each year at United. If you have already completed some classes in a church business administration program and are interested in certification, you may register for individual seminars you have not completed.

Requirements for NACBA Professional Certification

Completing the two weeks on campus at United meets the new NACBA requirements for the core courses. Other requirements include:

  • 4.0 CEUs (40 hours) in other areas
  • Completion of a project that represents a responsible contribution to the field of church management
  • Three years of continuous, full-time work experience as a church business administrator or in a related finance and administration position in a local congregation
  • Active NACBA membership for two years at the time of NACBA certification
  • Submission of the application for certification, personal evaluations and other administrative requirements
