    CPE Information Session

    12:00 PM
    November 1, 2021

    Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
    Information and Skill Building

Every Monday at 12 noon CT

If you’re enrolled in a degree program that requires you to complete one unit of CPE, these informational sessions will answer all of your questions. Prior to coming to UTS, Rev. Karen Hutt was a CPE Educator at four major hospitals in Chicago and most recently at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. She is currently leading a local CPE Program in Public Chaplaincy. Given the nature of the pandemic, programs will vary throughout the country. This will require you to have a coherent plan for your application process and site selection. All sessions will be informational based on the questions you bring. Get familiar with acpe.edu. Individual meetings: calendly.com/khutt

See this week’s Monday Morning for the Zoom meeting link. Contact Karen Hutt for more information.

Each day will feature workshops, papers, chapels and spiritual practices, an ongoing collaborative arts project with alum Sheryl Schwyhart (’20), and refreshments. All on-campus events will be accessible via Zoom.

There will be a nominal registration fee ($10 for students; $20 for alums and general public); need-based exemptions can be requested.

    Virtual Call and Response

    12:00 PM-1:00 PM
    November 1, 2021

Come Collaborate in virtual Call and Response!

    “Back Together” we
    Will write lines of poetry,
    Gifting words to share

    Inspire, create, dare
    Friends near and far, united
    Makers we are all

    Finding ways to call
    And respond with artful song
    Words, paint, dance, and yarn

    Each with unique charm
    We offer our visual gifts
    That others are blessed.

Join us in a collaborative Call and Response art activity, facilitated by current DMin student Andrea Rosselle! Together, at our Zoom meeting, we will write lines of poetry about being “Back Together”. (If you miss the meeting you can add your line on our collaborative Google doc linked in Monday Morning). Our individual “responses”, done throughout the week and inspired by a line from the collaborative poem, will be photographs of our creative artworks. Your creative response can be movement, drawings, sculptures, or whatever your creativity sparks! Our poetry and our photographs will be shared with the United Community after Symposium week.

    An Evening of Recognitions

    5:30 PM-9:00 PM
    November 1, 2021

Join us for an Evening of Recognitions and celebration as we gather back together on campus (or, if you prefer, via livestream). We are pleased to recognize these beloved faculty members and our distinguished alums on Monday, November 1, 2021.

Be sure to register to join us for these events:

5:30–6:00 PM CT: RECEPTION AND DISTINGUISHED ALUM EVENT
2020: Minn. State Rep. Rev. Todd Lippert (’03); 2021: Bishop David A. Bard (’84)

    6:00–6:30 PM CT: LIGHT DINNER
Due to the ongoing impact of COVID, we will not have a reception as planned, but instead we will provide boxed lunches from Cafe Latte. We encourage you to select a lunch and find a place that is socially distanced for eating. Please return to the chapel by 6:30 PM for the Nelson Room Dedication.

6:30–7:15 PM CT: REV. DR. JAMES B. NELSON ROOM DEDICATION
As a teacher, Jim pioneered new avenues of thinking and ethics. Jim’s early voice around human sexuality, in particular, shaped and prodded the church in significant ways that are still known and celebrated. We will dedicate our largest classroom in his name.
If you have a Jim memory that you want to share, feel free to send it to Cindi Beth Johnson. We will collect them and share them with others.

7:30–9:00 PM CT: PLENARY TALK: PROFESSOR EMERITA REV. DR. CAROLYN PRESSLER
Beloved professor, effective and powerful educator, and passionate activist for social justice, Carolyn Pressler will deliver a plenary talk: “Teachers as Learners and Learners as Teachers: A Message of Gratitude.”

Sessions are held on campus, but will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. Questions? Contact Andrew: afox@unitedseminary.edu.

Please note: We are taking precautions to ensure the safety of everyone present. The seminary’s updated COVID policy requires event attendees to both wear a mask and to be vaccinated.
