Ruth MacKenzie is one of Minnesota’s premiere jazz musicians. Her career as a jazz and blues singer has featured performances at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, Walker Art Center, Ruby’s Cabaret, Dakota Jazz Club, and Winnipeg Folk Music Festival in Manitoba, Canada. Theatre credits include Hearts on Fire and Into the Woods at Nautilus Theater, Ten November presented by the Actors Theater of Minnesota, and Plain Hearts, Cowgirls and Down to Earth at History Theatre. She began creating her own theatrical works in 1991 and is perhaps best known for The Snow Queen, presented at Children’s Theatre Company, and her dramatic, award-winning concert creation, Kalevala: Dream of the Salmon Maiden, produced at Southern Theater, the Guthrie, and O’Shaughnessy Auditorium.
