Want to push beyond traditional systematic theological categories towards an integration of constructive theology with hermeneutics (the study of interpretation and transformation)?
The Bible/Narrative concentration at United seeks a balance between faithful interpretation that does not dominate the text and a conscious awareness of our own contextualities as interpreters and communities, both locally and globally. The subject often interests post-evangelicals, post-liberals and intellectually-minded students who are interested in anchoring their theology in an “ancient future” approach to life.
If you believe both human identity and history are “storied” rather than static, and if you see the interpretation of theological texts in a similar light, this concentration is for you. Available for both the M.Div. and M.A. degrees.
