New at United Theological Seminary
JUSTICE AND PEACE STUDIES CONCENTRATION
in the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts Degrees
Through study, analysis, and direct experience,
United graduates who earn a Masters degree with this concentration
will be equipped for a ministry
of action and outreach on justice and peace issues.
When faced with concrete situations calling for action,
these graduates will draw on
theological perspectives, knowledge of the issues, and social analysis
to develop boldly creative and faithful approaches
and mobilize congregations, communities, and organizations
to act prophetically and effectively.
No matter what someone else has done, it still matters how we treat people.
It matters to our humanity…
Justice is not revenge - it’s deciding for a solution that is oriented towards peace,
peace being the harder but more humane way…

UPDATE on United’s Worship Renewal Grant
We received a large response from churches interested in our Creating Significant Worship in Times of Change and Challenge project.
The project, funded by a Worship Renewal Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc., will involve a cluster of five congregations together with representatives from the seminary over the course of a year for theological reflection and dialogue about what contributes to creating significant worship. Particular to the conversation will be the dynamics of change and how worship fosters spiritual growth and enlivens congregational life in the midst of change.
The seminary is deeply grateful for the interest in this project and the faithfulness of the congregations that applied as evidenced by the excellent applications. We received many worthy applications which made the selection process a very difficult task. After heartfelt deliberation and prayer we selected the following five congregations:
Arlington Hills Presbyterian Church - PC(USA)
Lyndale United Church of Christ - UCC
Minnehaha United Methodist Church - UMC
Parkway United Church of Christ - UCC
Richfield United Methodist Church - UMC
We will post resource information and other materials on our Web site throughout the year.
Also we will share what we learn in our work together during two events next June.
June 8 -12, 2009-- A workshop led by Art Clyde at United’s Summer Institute in Spirituality and the Arts. This will be an in-depth workshop examining the year-long processes and discoveries of the Creating Significant Worship project.
June 11, 2009-- A Creating Significant Worship project closing celebration event. The public will be invited to an evening of sharing of what was learned by the churches participating in the project.
Specific details and information about these events will come later.
