Kinds of Gifts

Foundational Support

Annual Fund
These gifts are the cornerstone of giving - they support the day to day work of the seminary, from salaries for our faculty and staff to growing scholarship support to keeping up to date with technology.

Annual Scholarships
Strong scholarship support is essential to recruit new students and retain and support our current students. More than 70 percent of degree students receive demonstrated need-based and merit-based assistance ranging from $1,000 to full tuition.

Commemorative Gifts
We invite you to make your gift in honor or in memory of a family member or special friend or to commemorate a special occasion
.

Employer Matching Gifts
Matching gifts from corporations greatly multiply the benefit of your gift. We welcome these gifts and ask that you enclose the matching gift form with your contribution.

Enhanced Support

Endowed Gifts
Gifts can be made to general endowment, existing endowment funds for scholarships, the religion and arts program, Bigelow Chapel, Spencer Library, or other vital areas. Please contact the development office to discuss your interest in making this kind of gift.

Bequests and Other Planned Gifts
Many friends of the seminary have made bequests through their wills to provide for United’s future. A bequest is the easiest kind of planned gift to make. You can make a bequest in your will, in a revocable trust, or by designating United as a beneficiary of your insurance policy or retirement account. Your gift may be unrestricted, or you may designate it for a particular purpose such as the scholarship fund, Spencer Library, Bigelow Chapel, or other area of interest. To include United in your will, we suggest you consult with an attorney or use the following language for your bequest:

  Sample Language for a Bequest
“I give to United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, New Brighton, Minnesota, a 501©(3), Minnesota nonprofit corporation, the following (amount of cash, securities, or other specific asset, or percentage of my will, or the residue of my estate) to be used for general unrestricted purposes (or for a designated purpose.)”

There are other kinds of planned gifts to consider which may fit your particular needs, including a charitable gift annuity, deferred gift annuity, charitable remainder trust, charitable lead trust, retirement account, life insurance, or real estate. The development office would be happy to discuss any of these options with you.

If you have already included United Theological Seminary in your will or have made another kind of planned gift, please let us know so we can thank you and recognize you as a member of the Barnabas Heritage Society.
