"Beneath the Surface: Exploring the Layers"
Chuck Hoffman + Peg Carlson-Hoffman

Artists' Reception

Untitled, 2013

The Holy Land offers glimpses of contrasts, vibrancy and yearnings for the elusive dream of peace. An intricate mosaic of people radiates spirituality and questions of justice. Drawing from these landscapes, Chuck Hoffman + Peg Carlson-Hoffman invite the viewer into a prayerful pilgrimage through symbol, texture and color.

Artists' Statement: As a result of facilitating art as a transformative process in communities like Belfast, Northern Ireland; West Bank; Palestine; and recently in Tamil Nadu, India, we create our personal work in much the same manner. Our paintings are created together, working on the same canvas at the same time, to form something neither of us could create alone.

Artists' Bio: Chuck + Peg have lived both commercial and artistic lives in their many-storied careers. They now collaborate on their prayer and painting by working side-by-side on the same canvas, transforming underlying prayer into physical existence. This dwelling in the presence of God cultivates a sense of authentic wholeness where bridges of peace can be built.

This show is funded in part by the Wilson Yates Religion and the Arts Endowment.
