Requirements of the Concentration

The following requirements enable students to reach the learning goals of the concentration. Five 3-credit classes as follows:

• TR331 Antiracism Dialogue: Theory and Practice
  
• Three electives selected from a list approved by the Educational Planning and Evaluation Committee (including courses, for example, in African American experience and theology, Native American experience and theology, as well as immersion trips to Two Thirds World countries, and suitable offerings at Consortium schools). • One of the following:
  • CL### Multicultural Foundation for Helping and Healing Practices: Culture Context, Communication, Leadership
  • CL571 The Public Witness of Congregations
  • CL891 Conflict and the Congregation: Restoration and Resilience

Educational Goals of the Concentration

The excellent graduate of the Leadership Toward Racial Justice concentration of the United M.Div. degree program:

• has an understanding of the dynamics of racism and white privilege, especially in their systemic and institutional manifestations;
• has knowledge of the experience and religious traditions of at least two communities of color; and
• is enabled and motivated to be an effective agent of change for the elimination of racism in church and society.
