Certificate in Theological and Religious
Studies
The Certificate in Theological and Religious Studies is intended
to provide interested individuals a framework within which to pursue
theological and spiritual questions of personal interest and/or
add skills and knowledge that strengthen their ability to fulfill
volunteer leadership roles in church contexts. Certificate program
students are appointed a faculty advisor to guide them in choosing
courses that best suit their study purposes.
Requirements of the Certificate
- Satisfactory completion of five elective courses of the
student’s choosing. All courses must be taken at United
and must be completed within five years of beginning study.
- Recommendation by the faculty.
Certificate in Leadership
Toward Racial Justice

The Certificate in Leadership Toward Racial Justice is intended
to provide clergy and lay leaders of faith communities the knowledge,
understanding, and skills to facilitate antiracism transformation
in congregational or other settings.
Educational Goals of the Certificate
• |
To give students an understanding
of the dynamics of racism and white privilege, especially in
their systemic and institutional manifestations; |

To give students knowledge of the experience
and religious traditions of at least two communities of color;
and |
|
To enable and motivate students to be
effective agents of change for the elimination of racism in
church and society. |
Requirements of the Certificate
1. Satisfactory completion of five 3-credit
courses as follows:
