About Us

From its very inception, United has been forward-looking in its approach to theological education. A seminary of the United Church of Christ, United was the first seminary in mainline Protestantism with an ecumenical charter. Its founders intended that it should pioneer new ways to educate people for ministry in a changing world.

Today that commitment is manifest in our integrated curriculum, the new Academy for Vital Christianity, a faculty and student body who comprise a rich mix of theological traditions, a focus on the arts as a source of inspiration for worship, and, always, an ethic of social justice that takes seriously the responsibility to move people and communities to greater wholeness and justice. Whether you seek theological education for professional leadership in the church or for work and ministry in other areas of society, we have programs and offerings that will meet your needs.

Whether you seek theological education for professional leadership in the church or for work and ministry in other areas of society, we have programs and offerings that will meet your needs.

United is a vibrant, creative, caring, and challenging place in which to pursue theological education:

  • Meet our faculty, dedicated to your spiritual, ethical, and professional growth and contributing through research and publication to the vitality of the church;
